Isabel Van Camp, a junior All-American at Arkansas who has captured an NCAA Division 1 indoor distance medley relay title and contributed to a collegiate record in the 4x1,500-meter relay, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss her return Oct. 14 to the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational at the Thomas Zimmer Championship course to compete in Madison for the first time since 2019. Van Camp, who won the women's 5-kilometer title Sept. 30 at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival at Agri Park in Fayetteville after capturing the "El Caliente" individual crown as a high school senior in 2018 at Keller High in Texas, leads the No. 14 Razorbacks into the women's 6-kilometer championship race that features 24 NCAA Division 1 ranked programs. She explains how meaningful it was to triumph at Chile Pepper, but also to have the opportunity to compete with teammate Lauren Gregory, also a member of the collegiate record 4x1,500 relay who was racing unattached. Van Camp also reflects on placing 10th in the 6-kilometer race Sept. 24 at the Cowboy Jamboree at Oklahoma State, contributing to Arkansas finishing ninth overall, and how she used the motivation following that performance to fuel her to victory competing at home the following week at Chile Pepper. She also reflects on participating in the open race in 2019 at Nuttycombe and how much she has learned about competing in larger fields, especially at the NCAA Division 1 championship meet last season, earning All-America honors with a 37th-place effort at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. Van Camp analyzes how meaningful it was to be selected to race with Krissy Gear, Logan Jolly and Paris Peoples on the indoor DMR lineup that secured the national title in March at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. She also reminisces about teaming with Gear, Gregory and Jolly in April to produce the 4x1,500 collegiate record of 16:53.87 at Penn Relays, holding off North Carolina State in 16:55.19, and performing in front of such an electric crowd at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Van Camp explains what an honor it is to compete for Arkansas in the final year for legendary coach Lance Harter and the motivation to send him out with more Southeastern Conference titles, including Oct. 28 in Oxford, Miss., with the Razorbacks seeking a 10th consecutive championship. She also analyzes the importance of balance in her own life, along with helping guide younger teammates in an effort to continue the successful Arkansas tradition this year and beyond.
